코로나 19 팬데믹 상황에서도 여수국제미술제가 열립니다.

 

여수국제미술제는 항구도시 여수에서 새로운 미술 부흥을 꿈꾸며 시작한 지 15년을 넘기고 있습니다. 이제는 명실공히 국제미술제로써 위상을 갖추어 가면서 새로운 변화와 도전을 준비하고 있습니다.

 

제11회 2021 여수국제미술제는 여수시민들에게 동시대 미술의 변화에 동참하는 기회를 제공합니다. 더불어 참여한 미술가들에게는 자신의 예술세계를 널리 알리고, 전시예술감독에게는 자신의 역량을 마음껏 펼쳐 보일 수 있는 장을 제공하고자 합니다.

 

주제전 “흐르는 것은 멈추길 거부한다”에서는 아시아 현대미술의 역동성을 펼치고, 야외공원에서는 대형 설치와 정크 아트, 조각작품을 전시합니다. 또한, 역량 있는 미술가들을 초대한 특별전과 “코로나 19 위기의 미술”전 등으로 현대미술의 무게감과 다양성을 담아낼 것입니다.

 

여러모로 힘겨운 상황이지만, 서로 힘을 모아 우리가 발 딛고 있는 이 땅에서 무릎을 펴고 힘차게 일어서고자 합니다. 코로나 19 위기 속에서 예술로 피로감을 씻고, 해방감을 같이 나누고자 합니다.

Chairman's Greetings:

 

The Yeosu International Art Festival will be held despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

It has been over 15 years since the Yeosu International Art Festival started with the dream of a new art revival in the port city of Yeosu. Now, we are preparing for new changes and challenges while establishing our status as an international art festival both in name and reality.

 

The 11th Yeosu International Art Festival 2021 provides Yeosu citizens with an opportunity to participate in the changes in contemporary art. Additionally, we aim to provide a venue for participating artists to publicize their artistic world, and for exhibition art directors to show off their capabilities to the fullest.

 

The exhibition theme, “Flowing Refuses to Stop” presents the dynamism of Asian contemporary art, with large-scale installations, junk art, and sculptures, as they are displayed in the Ocean Plaza. Also, the invited special exhibition with talented artists and the “Art in Crisis of Covid-19” exhibition will capture the weight and diversity of contemporary art.

 

Although it is a difficult situation in many ways, we want to work together to stand up strong with our knees out on the ground we are standing on. We are in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, but we want to wash away our fatigue with art and share the feeling of liberation.
